61st annual Edwin Montano Scholarship

This Saturday October 18, 2025, the Puerto Rican Society held the 61st Annual Edwin Montano Memorial Scholarship Banquet. We had a full house. We want to thank the board members, the scholarship committee for all their efforts in putting this event together. We want to give warm thanks to Deacon Salvador Martinez for the invocation, VFW Post 8741 for the presentation of the colors, and Ms. Ennedy Rivera, our guest speaker. 24 students were awarded scholarships.
The food and music were enjoyed by all. We hope to see you at next year’s banquet.

The scholarship is named after the late Edwin Montano, a leader in the Waukegan Hispanic community who saw education as the key to success for the next generation. For 61 years, the Puerto Rican Society in Waukegan has presented scholarships to college students. Financial assistance is necessary for many college students, particularly those planning careers requiring years of education beyond the undergraduate level. Scholarships have unique benefits and are the most desirable form of financial aid. At the Puerto Rican Society, our primary goal is to help students.

The Edwin Montano scholarship program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers who are passionate about students pursuing higher educational opportunities. We strive to enrich the lives of Waukegan area residents, concentrating on the Hispanic population and emphasizing Hispanic culture.
